You’ve now met all four cases individually. This page pulls them together: the full der/die/das paradigm, the full ein paradigm, how kein (the negative article) fits in, and how possessives (mein, dein, sein, ihr, unser, euer, ihr, Ihr) follow the exact same pattern as ein. Treat this as the reference page you come back to, and the exercises below as a mixed review across everything so far.

The full der-word table

CaseMasculineFeminineNeuterPlural
Nominativderdiedasdie
Akkusativdendiedasdie
Dativdemderdemden
Genitivdesderdesder

Der-words — words that decline exactly like der, and can stand in its place — include dieser (this), jeder (every), welcher (which), and alle (all, plural).

The full ein-word table

Nominativeineineein
Akkusativeineneineein
Dativeinemeinereinem
Genitiveineseinereines

Ein-words — words that decline exactly like ein — include:

Ich habe einen Bruder. → Ich habe keinen Bruder. → Das ist mein Bruder.

All three follow identical endings — learn the ein-pattern once, and kein and every possessive come for free.

The one thing to watch for

Because ein, kein, and the possessives don’t show gender in the masculine Nominativ or the neuter Nominativ/Akkusativ the way der does, the adjective that follows them sometimes has to pick up the slack — that’s the subject of the next page, Adjective Endings.
